Random Thoughts from the Punk Kitchen: 01/07/2018

I spent the first real weekend of 2018 with a miserable cold.  Every time I thought the sinus drainage was over, I would sneeze 6 times in a row (no, that is not a typo) and the cycle would start all over again.  Aggressively.

The only good thing about a cold is that it forces me to slow down and not try to multi-task five things at once the entire weekend.  And not feel guilt about doing something like reading a New Yorker magazine or two  all the way through in one sitting, completing a crossword puzzle or looking at every Instagram post that Henry Rollins assistant, Heidi has posted in their account @henryandheidi.   In a nutshell, the cold gave me the excuse to have a down weekend, which as an introvert I needed and was probably the root cause of the cold anyway.  Too much activity and not enough solitude.

In other news, we ordered a new Audio Technica professional grade turntable this week to replace the basic turntable we’ve been borrowing from our son.   I had just enough energy and break from the tissue blowing to hook it up, and I’m spending the afternoon listening to a few Bowie and Iggy Pop records.  The turntable is an amazing upgrade.  I’m spinning The Idiot by Iggy Pop now, and it sounds like he’s in our living room.  Yes, a good turntable is a required investment if you own a tremendous amount of vinyl, point definitely taken.

On the cooking side, I did find a good recipe in this week’s Parade magazine, something I don’t usually read in the Sunday papers.  (I’m not their target audience by a long shot). It was for a Sriracha and Caramelized Onion Grilled Cheese Sandwich.  It sounds really yummy and its nice to see that Sriracha has made it beyond the taste buds of Californians and hipsters, and now is featured in a Sunday supplemental magazine.   As soon as I feel a bit better, I’ll give it a try and let you all know the results.

Bis bald as they say in German!
