Commute Music: Week of 1/27/14 “Statue with a Walkman”

Every week I commute with music, usually from my iPhone or the local college radio, KZSC.  This week’s stand out song was from Robyn Hitchcock’s album Shadow cat.

“Statue with a Walkman” is one of those Robyn Hitchcock songs that marry a beautiful music with strange almost ethereal lyrics.  The lyrics go beyond the mere attempts to play with words and their meanings in new and unusual ways    Like his song “Two Long Pairs of Eyes”,  “Statue” seems to shimmer with some profound meaning  Its like when you wake up from a dream and you have this spark of deep understanding that is lost completely when you are fully conscious  again in the physical world.
